About the 2nd Space Operations Squadron:
The 2nd Space Operations Squadron (2 SOPS), based at Schriever Space Force Base, CO, operates and maintains the GPS constellation. Activated in 1985 as the 2nd Satellite Control Squadron, it was redesignated to its current title in 1992, becoming the premier unit responsible for space-based positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT). It is currently assigned to Space Delta 8.
